
PTDF shortlists 5000 Nigerians for foreign scholarships
The Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) has announced the shortlisting of more than 5,000 applicants from across Nigeria for the coveted overseas scholarships for the upcoming 2023/2024 academic session. The Head of the Overseas Scholarship Scheme in the PTDF, Mrs Bolanle Kehinde-Agboola, made this revelation during a selected interview exercise held for the shortlisted candidates pursuing MSc and PhD postgraduate programs.
Rigorous Selection Process Commences for PTDF Overseas Scholarships
Mrs Kehinde-Agboola explained that the ongoing selection interviews were part of the comprehensive application process, which commenced on February 13, 2023. The PTDF had published notifications in national newspapers, inviting eligible Nigerian candidates to apply for the scholarships. The interview process is taking place simultaneously across the six geo-political zones of the country.
Eligibility Criteria and Academic Excellence Requirements for PTDF Scholarships
To qualify for the PTDF scholarship, Mrs. Kehinde Agboola outlined the initial criteria. Applicants must be Nigerian citizens, and for the master’s program, they should be students in fields related to oil and gas, such as engineering, geology, computer sciences, environmental sciences, and management. Moreover, a minimum of a second-class upper division in any of these fields is required to be considered eligible for the scholarship.

Highlighting the purpose of the scholarship program, Mrs. Kehinde-Agboola emphasized that PTDF is an agency dedicated to enhancing the capacity and development of the oil and gas sector. The scholarship initiative aims to train individuals who can bring innovation and advancements to the industry. By providing successful candidates with overseas study opportunities, PTDF intends to equip them with the necessary skills to excel and contribute effectively in the sector.
International Collaborations: PTDF’s Global Reach for Education and Skill Enhancement
Mrs. Kehinde-Agboola further revealed that the PTDF scholarship scheme operates in various countries through strategic collaborations. The primary partnership is with the United Kingdom, offering opportunities for study and research. Additionally, PTDF has established strategic partnerships in France, Germany, Malaysia, and China, enabling successful applicants to pursue their educational endeavors in these nations. The selection process will span a week nationwide, and the number of final awardees will be determined by the budget allocated for the program.
