Manchester United Aims for Striker Breakthrough and Urges Swift Signing of New Goalscorer
Manchester United are hoping to find a breakthrough over signing a striker and want one signed quickly.
This is according to The Mail, which claims Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag is ‘eager to have a new striker in place for pre-season training.’
Players were pictured returning for pre-season on Monday, so there is no time for Manchester United to waste at all.
Midfielder Mason Mount is set to become Manchester United’s first signing after undergoing a medical.
While The Mail claim Manchester United are close to extending Marcus Rashford‘s contract, another top priority is to sign a centre-forward.
Rashford has been more effective on the left, although he did have his moments leading the line last season, and United need a new number nine. Anthony Martial has proven he cannot be relied upon, amid ongoing injury issues.
It is reported that top targets are Atalanta’s Rasmus Hojlund and Eintracht Frankfurt’s Randal Kolo Muani.
The Mail report talks are ongoing over both forwards, amid Erik ten Hag’s desire to have a striker in place quickly.
The club’s first pre-season game takes place in Norway on July 12, while the first match of the USA tour is on July 22.
United are not typically quick movers in the market, but the club needs to start showing some urgency.
Last summer only Tyrell Malacia was signed in time for the pre-season tour, and amid late business, United lost the first two games of the Premier League season.
Nobody wants to see a similarly late start this time around, especially manager Erik ten Hag.
